The greatest sports teams of all time are measured according a number of factors. There are great teams who worked so well together they go down in history as the greatest teams of their time.
The All Blacks
From New Zealand, the All Blacks rugby team has gone down as one of the greatest teams of its time. The All Blacks have always been a good team with great wins under their belts. An overall winning percentage of 76.56 over their long history with 405 wins, only 105 losses and 19 draws, does prove how much this team has achieved. Captain Richie McCaw of the team loses only once in every 10 Tests, with just 14 defeats from 140 internationals since making his debut in 2001. This team proves time and time again why they are at the top because the amount of passion and love for the game is larger than life and is in every one of the players. They have great team communication and co-ordination. Many have agreed, they deserve this title.
Australia Cricket Team
With Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist, and Steve Waugh taking charge, the brutal Aussies won 72 Tests, they drew 11 and lost only 10 as the rest of the cricketing world kept jumping over their neighbours’ fence and to ask for their ball back.
Australia has a very successful period in the 1990s and the beginning if the 21st century. They were undefeated in the Ashes series and achieved a victory of a hat-trick of World Cups.
It is believed the reason why this success was achieved was due to the restructuring of the team, the effectiveness of the players working as a team and the aggressive team captains. The key players who are most noteworthy are Glenn McGrath, Justin Langer, Shane Warne, Matthew Hayden, Adam Gilchrist, Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey. After the 2006/07 Ashes series in which Australia claimed a victory of 5 – 0, the team then slipped in the rankings because the key players retired.
Australia beat England 5 -0 in the 2013/14 Ashes series and managed to climb back into 3rd place on the ICC International Test Rankings. In Feb & Mar 2014 Australia then won against the number 1 team in the world, South Africa with a score of 2–1 and followed with a re-ranked of number 1 in the world. The Australian team then won the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
In the years 1998 -1999, the boys were extremely happy as they probably has one of the best football teams in the world and have every played the game. They lost only five games in all the competitions they played and also won the Premier League title, won the FA Cup and won the Champions League trophy. It was their attacking football, free-flowing and never say die mindset that ensured the team achieve what it did.
A team that included the likes of Gary Neville, Peter Schmeichel, Jaap Stam, Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was a recipe for success.
